Our services are driven by an integrated Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Management System ensuring effective processes are used to deliver the required standard of quality.

Minimising Defects

An integral part of our SHEQ Management System is the production of a quality control plan for each project. The plan details all installation, inspection and test activities to be carried out on a project.

Verification of installation is documented by progressive completion of inspection check lists in accordance with the quality control plan.

Completed inspection check lists are offered up to the client for witness and signature, therefore minimising end of project defects and “snagging lists” and ensuring the quality of the product/service is of a high standard.

Internal Audit

Audits are carried out by a Quality Engineer who is autonomous of the project and include conformance to the BK SHEQ Management System and the site quality control plan.

External Audit

Our SHEQ Management System is also subject to 6-monthly audit by DNV, our external accreditation body.

DNV audit Balfour Kilpatrick against the Balfour Beatty Group Audit Protocol (BB GAP). BB GAP captures all the SHEQ Management System requirements applicable to Balfour Beatty Operating Companies, to not only maintain certification to BS-EN-ISO 9001:2000 (Quality), BS-EN-ISO 14001:2004 (Environment) and OHSAS 18001:1999 (Health and Safety), but to encourage and assess progress beyond minimum requirements.

In doing so, audits measure both ‘Process’ and ‘Implementation’ to provide assurance that processes in place are being implemented consistently across the business.

Continuous Improvement

The SHEQ Management System is regularly reviewed to ensure that continuing improvement of the system and processes is maintained to the benefit of the business and our customers.

Our SHEQ Board meet quarterly to review the annually set objectives and results from the following:

  • Internal and external audits
  • Customer feedback
  • Process performance and service conformity
  • Status of preventive and corrective actions
  • Changes that could effect business and SHEQ management systems

The output from these reviews includes decisions and actions related to improvement of the company management systems and processes, as well as improvement of services related to customer requirements.
